Safe Travel, Saint La Strada and Joseph of Cupertino

Safe Travel, Saint La Strada and Joseph of Cupertino

Hello Everyone –

        Here is another great testimonial we are sharing with permission. Thank you, Michael, for writing such a kind and thoughtful note. We were very moved that you placed one of our Saint Michael medals with your mom during her funeral. I did the same thing, placing St. Padre Pio in my brother Kevin's pocket before he was buried.

“Hi, Rob--

I have purchased and been gifted a total of around eight of your beautiful hand-painted medals over the years. I even wound up with two St. Michael (my patron saint) medals, but I was fine with that because they were both quite unique. Now, I am sad to report that my mom passed away in June, but I thought you might like to know that I placed one of the St. Michael medals in a pouch and sent it along with her on her journey to Heaven. I like to think that she will always have it and that it will be a nice reminder of me and the loving bond that we shared. Though my heart is still very heavy, I am glad to be able to share this story with you. I hope that it makes you feel good about the important work that you do.

Sincerely,

Michael O.

It’s September 18th, so you know what that means! The Frequent Flyer Franciscan Friar, Saint Joseph of Cupertino, is having his Feast Day. He is known as the patron of safe flight. He protects our airlines, Air Force, and aviators. He’s also the patron invoked for help with taking tests.  Who knew!?

We will tell more about Saint Joseph of Cupertino as the patron of safe flights, but first some quick pieces of news.

UPDATES

  1. We have just added over 100 new photos of our hand-painted medals to the SaintsforSinners website! That’s not even half of our hand-painted medals we have but it’s a great start! Soon we will have all of our saint medal photographs, nearly 300, up for viewing.

  2. The “Who’s Your Saint Quizzes” are almost all finished and up-to-date again. Fill out the quiz form and give us your notations or topics of interest and you’ll find “There’s a saint for that!”

  3. We can add a few more addresses to the Private email list so let us know if you’d like to get on that list. It’s not much different than this but it is often more personal.

  4. Our Saint La Strada plans are underway! Lots of supplies have finally arrived and we will be practicing drawing the saints and then showing the images on Facebook and Instagram. Saint La Strada is our developing nonprofit that will share artistic renderings of the saints. We will share the lives of the saints with artistic drawings we will be helping schools and clubs raise needed funds for their organizations. It’s all very exciting!

  5. The basic deal about Saint Joseph of Cupertino is we will add another safe travel saint to your order. Attach a safe travel saint to your car’s rear view mirror or your book bag, purse, briefcase, purse, cat and dog. (Or gerbil cage! We know a gerbil named Bubbles in South Carolina!)

JOSEPH OF CUPERTINO

Joseph was born in the 18th Century. As a kid, he sometimes had that look where your head’s tilted and jaw drops a bit. You know, when someone has gone deep, deep in thought. Joseph of Cupertino’s careful contemplations only led him to be scorned and vilified. He was nicknamed “The Gaper.”

His home life wasn’t much better. His Dad died early and the debt collectors were always hounding his Mom. He worked as a cobbler but eventually got into Divinity School where he flourished. Joseph was finally a manifestor of his own domain. He acquired “Rocket Fuel” and was soon flying all around by levitation. That’s probably why he is the patron of aviators and frequent flyers. He joined the exclusive group of other saints who offer protection during travel:

Saint Christopher, who is the most well-known safe travel saint;

Our Lady of Loreto, who is also known for protecting pilots and flight attendants;

Our Lady of the Highway, who protects travel on the Interstate and local roads too. If you look closely at her medal, you will see there are lots on tiny little cars on it, traveling safely through towns, cities, and states.

Thanks for reading to the bottom line!

    I cannot swear to this but my husband, who was pretty knowledgable about this sort of thing, told me that one of the levitating saints who was a monk had a rope allowing him to only float so far and also had a bell attached to him. When he levitated, the bell would start ringing as he moved and the monks would come in to make sure he was ok.
