Ecce Homo

Ecce Homo

"Behold the Man"
Suffering Jesus

The image depicts Jesus Christ with a crown of thorns is one of the most symbolic images of Jesus. It portrays Jesus at His Crucifixion. The Ecce Homo medal seems to always have “Mater Dolorosa,” the “Mother of Sorrows” on its other side. This image depicts the Blessed Virgin Mary at the time of Jesus’ suffering. Both are iconic images that have been replicated by numerous artists throughout past centuries, and up to today. It’s difficult to pay significant, respectful homage and adequately portray or illustrate the portrait of Jesus in His final hours. He is rendered suffering yet fully prepared to die for all our sins. So too, is it challenging to describe the profound sadness inherent on the face of Mother Mary, the Blessed Virgin, as she tries to comprehend the loss of her only son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Ecce Homo is Latin for “Behold the Man” and perhaps admonishes us that we all should  give even more Praise to and for  His Everlasting Presence. Behold the Man. © 2016
