Saint Jude

Saint Jude

Patron of Hopeless Causes
Invoked for help in 'Impossible Situations'
Feast Day: October 28

Jude’s story took place long ago. It was said that Jude was a worthy Saint to pray to when one thought they had a hopeless cause. This was because Jude’s name was similar to the Saint who betrayed Jesus, Judas Iscariot, so it was thought few people would ever pray to him. This logic seems to have worked backwards somehow and Jude is now one of the most popular Saints. Everyone thinks their problem is a “hopeless cause” and they pray to Jude for help. Saint Jude is often listed in the classified sections of newspapers and offered “thanks for prayers answered.” One of the only Saint Jude Shrines in the world is located at Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel, at the edge of the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. If you feel you may have a hopeless or “impossible” situation on your hands, pray to (or wear!) Saint Jude who will help you in your darkest hour.  ©2002
