The Death of Pope Francis I

Hello Everyone ~

As you know, yesterday, April 21, 2025, the man born as Jorge Mario Bergoglio, and became revered as "the Peoples' Pope," died and entered Eternal Rest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Roman Catholics often refer to the Pope as "God on Earth," yet with Pope Francis I, we had a Pope who was "Godlike" to many, not merely his fellow Catholics. Francis embraced all with fervor. He met with Jews and Muslims, gays and transgender, the Agnostic, the Atheist, Murderers, Sinners, outcasts, and clearly proclaimed all worthy of love and respect. "Have and Share Love and Compassion for the Marginalized" was his mantra and summed up his philosophy.

The Peoples' Pope. Francis I offered love universally and unconditionally. Yet, while the world mourns the death of its Catholic leader, Francis surely yearns for our despondency to have a "shelf life." Our Pope wants us to have laughter through our tears.

In fact, this harbinger resounded in words, last December, 2024. Pope Francis advised us not to wallow in melancholy. He wrote about us being strong yet nevertheless, having the emotional need to cry seriously at times, acknowledging its unique catharsis. He also urged us to allow and rejoice in the times for laughing uproariously. Comedy is "good for the soul," he told comedian Whoopi Goldberg.

Pope Francis commented about Cardinal Wojtyla, of Poland, who was once admonished for being athletic and having (maybe "too much?") fun with sports by another Catholic Cardinal, sage in years and thought. Cardinal Wojtyla replied, that "at least half of the Cardinals in Poland enjoyed skiing" and other athletic endeavors! He failed to mention that he was one of the only two Cardinals from his country and thus self-qualified as half of Poland. His smooth talking may have helped make Wojtyla become better known as, "JP2," Pope John Paul II.

Pope Francis also recounted the humor of Pope John XXIII, "J23," who once noted and recognized the great need and duty for helping others, and for offering solace and comfort to the world. Later, he woke up in the night with a cold sweat, realizing the world was counting on .... him!

When Pope Francis I canonized these former Popes as saints, we attended the event in Saint Peters Square in Rome. It was a joyous occasion and celebration of miraculous lives. Although it was our intention, this April, to witness and enjoy the Canonization of a cheerful and loving boy, Carlo Acutis, we are saddened to be instead attending the funeral of Pope Francis I.

We look forward to sharing our experiences at the Vatican as the body of Pope Francis I is officially put to rest. We had urged you earlier to send in a SASE for us to send you a souvenir from Carlo's canonization. Now, we encourage you to send something in and receive a token from the funeral of the Peoples' Pope, Francis I. It will be an honor and privilege to share an item from this momentous occasion!

Thanks for reading to the bottom line.
