Jonathan Rhys Meyers

In the first of our Thanksgiving  Celebration, we have a 2005 photograph, (prior to the flood of Hurricane Katrina,) of actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, wearing Saint Patrick of the Great Republic of Ireland, Emily Cranston and Tom Humbarger, who played “Junior Smith,” sort of “Photobombing” us at a venue for local bands.

This photo was taken at Carrollton Station in New Orleans. Rob Clemenz was with his friend Emily Cranston (pictured with Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and they were out and about offering medals and taking pictures to promote the SaintsforSinners website

They met Jonathan and offered him a saint Patrick medal and then asked him whether “he knew about Saint Patrick.” Jonathan replied, “Of the Great Republic of Ireland,” yes, I do indeed know about Saint Patrick. It turned out that Jonathan was an Irishman from Dublin and Cork, Ireland.

Later on, we also discovered that Jonathan was an actor and was filming a Biography film, “Young Elvis,” portraying Elvis Presley,

It was a memorable meeting and later on we learned how much Jonathan Rhys Meyers truly loved the SaintsforSinners saint Patrick medal. Rob somehow found himself on the film set of the movie and met a lady who was working behind the scenes of the show in the costume department.

She came up to Rob and asked, “Are you the guy who paints the saint medals, because if you are, I can’t stand you!” Rob admitted he was that guy from SaintsforSinners.  She responded that he was causing trouble on the film set, although he had never been there before that moment.

It seems the saint Patrick medal was actually the cause of all the trouble. Apparently, Jonathan Rhys Meyers was refusing to take his Saint Patrick medal off during the filming of the movie. That was a huge problem for the people making it, because it was a period piece set decades ago, and the show could not contain a scene where JRM was wearing a colorfully hand-painted medal of any kind, not even Saint Patrick of the Great Republic of Ireland.

The lady’s annoyance was really all just good-natured teasing about the fact that she had to continually chase Jonathan around the set to make him take the medal off during filming!

The movie wrapped and was critically acclaimed. Jonathan Rhys Meyers won numerous awards, including a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Elvis. He thanked our friend Peter in his acceptance speech, saying that “50 percent of the award goes to Peter!”

Hopefully we will be writing about Peter in a future segment of our Thanksgiving 2022 Series celebrating the friends, neighbors, and family of SaintsforSinners from over the years.

Until then, we hope you enjoyed our little story about the actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers and SaintsforSinners Saint Patrick both shining examples of people from the Great Republic of Ireland.

Thanks for reading to the bottom line.
