Journalism & Our Return from the Vatican and Our Visit to Pope Francis I Tomb

We’re "Back in the Saddle" in New Orleans, after seeing Pope Francis I, the People’s Pope, entombed in Rome at Saint Mary Major Basilica, near Vatican Square.

It was quite a trip, a truly GOL

"Gasp Out Loud,"

breathtaking experience. I’m sure you’ll be reading my ramblings about it for many years to come.

The Vatican Post Office in Saint Peter’s Square was

“OOC” – Out of Control!

The Post Office personnel at the Vatican only allowed us to buy 10 postcard stamps per visit. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time waiting on line, getting to the front of the line, and then getting back on line to get those coveted stamps from Vatican City.

I've already had “writers’ cramp” from scrawling all the messages I wrote to you. I was determined, and sent so many handwritten cards, in my typical childlike scrawl. The theme of Pope Francis I funeral was apropos, reverential .... yet, also inspiring.

We were all quite fortunate to be gifted 12 years of Papal Reign with the Peoples Pope. His tenure will never be forgotten. Pope Francis I .... He said it in so many ways, with so many deeds and by leading through example. Everyone had a place at the table of Pope Francis I. The first shall be last and the last, or "least" amongst us shall be first.

The next Pope has twelve years of action and courage to copy during the next reign. Soon, I'll be talking about the Cardinal Conclave. Saint Cayetano, patron of the unemployed and gamblers, must be enjoying the fact that gambling has become so common and widspread. The oddsmakers are saying Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna, Italy, has the inside track to become the next Pope.

EDITORIAL: Say a Prayer, Place a bet, for Cardinal Zuppi. He'd be a great Pope! There's another Cardinal who could get elected who actually, honestly, insipidly, still thinks a man or woman who has been divorced is not eligible to receive the Holy Eucharist.

Although we've barely arrived in New Orleans, we are already planning to see the Kentucky Derby on May 3, 2025 (also known as "today"). We’ll be watching at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival at the Fairgrounds. At Jazz Fest, the party is "postponed" for 3 minutes so everyone can watch the Kentucky Derby on the Jumbotrons for "the fastest 3 minutes" in history!

Saint George, patron of horses, horse lovers, equestrians, and other very curious protections ( go ahead and look it up at www.CatholicSaints.Info ) .... will be on our mind. We put his beautiful medal (It's round!) package on sale for the weekend. Plus, we have his cool prayer cards from Rome.

We have been reading constantly lately! So, it's fitting that "Journalism" is the favorite to win the Kentucky Derby.

We’re happily betting on Journalism. The horse who's so named because its owner was the Editor of his High School Newspaper! If he wins the Derby, it seems there’s a chance AI might take a back seat to independent thinking.

Saint Francis de Sales, patron of writers, will be very happy when Journalism gets to take well-deserved credit once again. We have brilliant vintage Saint Francis de Sales medallions. They are hand-inscribed

"BE DILIGENT IN READING"

on the back, from the Book of Timothy!

      That’s all for this newsletter.

Thanks for reading to the bottom line.
