Saint Suffreins & Pablo
We're in Venasque, France, where I met a guy at Saint Suffrein's Church, Pablo, from Peru. I guessed he was from Italy but he said, "No, I'm Peruvian!" (He was and is a fan of Jannick Sinner, from Italy, who may win Wimbledon.) I digress.
Of course, after meeting him, l tried to tell Pablo all about my vast knowledge of Peru, and explain the stories of Saint Martin de Porres, and Rose of Lima. And so, now, I have to go fix my story of Martin de Porres on the www.SaintsforSinners.com website, because I had the story mixed up.
I thought Saint Martin de Porres was the patron of animals, but that's barely partially correct. Broadly speaking he is, but precisely, he is the patron of Dogs, Cats, and Rats. Here's the reasoning (Thank You, Pablo!)
Saint Martin de Porres was biracial. I did get that part right! The rest of the story is what I had upside down. Martin is the patron of dogs and cats and rats. Specifically, dogs, cats and rats, because dogs chase cats and cats chase mice (rats). And those facts are very relevant!
In the world of Saint Martin de Torres, there's not much chasing happening. And that's the message of Martin de Porres. Dogs, Cats, Rats, and the rest of the world can live together in harmony. Martin's world embraces Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion. It's not true Saint Martin was only worried about whether rats would have enough to eat! The message is much more profound.
No one is les than another. The small are as mighty as the big. Everyone can co-exist in harmony. I loved learning the specific story of Saint Martin de Porres, thanks to Pablo's message at Saint Sufferin's Church in Venasque today!
