Saint Anthony
Patron of Lost Things and Miracles
Feast Day: June 13
Anthony’s story took place long ago. At age 20, Anthony chose to renounce his inheritance, sell all his possessions and live a meager, hermit-like existence serving the poor. He ultimately became a Franciscan along with his friend, Saint Francis of Assisi. Anthony was such a brilliant speaker and when he preached to the fish they stood up on their tails in the water to listen. He became known as a “Wonder Worker” and is regarded as one of the greatest preachers of all time. The churches in Italy could not house all who came to hear Anthony. He also became famous as an interceder, settling feuds, helping to secure justice and creating peace between warring adversaries. It is written that a disciple of Anthony’s once borrowed one of his books without permission and then suffered such a horrible fate that he quickly returned it. This led Anthony to become popularly known as the finder of lost things. Some people pray to Saint Anthony when they lose their keys or other material belongings; others pray to him when they think that they (or a loved one) may be losing their way. Pray to Saint Anthony to help you find your path to spirituality and serenity in your life.
