Saint Germaine Cousin

Germaine’s story took place long ago. Her mother died when Germaine was an infant and Germaine was then mistreated by her family. She had no meaningful place to sleep and was often left out in the barn and given scraps to eat. Germaine’s hand was deformed and she was often ill. Germaine chose a solitary life and became a shepardess for the family. This gave her time to pray and helped her find peace. Germaine started attending Mass and was consistently devoted to making it to Church on time. When she was busy with her flock, she would entrust her animals to her Guardian Angel and the flock was never harmed while she was away. She still faced problems at home, though, and one time her step-mother, Hortense, accused her of stealing food and hiding it in her apron. Hortense made Germaine open her apron to give back the allegedly stolen food and when she did, beautiful flowers dispersed. This was the time when Germaine started to be treated as though she were a special, gifted, holy child. But Germaine was not inclined to leave her life and the solitude it offered. She remained a shepardess and took great reward from teaching little children prayers. After her death, many said she performed numerous healing miracles. © 2012
