Madonna of the Street is actually a famous painting by Robert Ferruzzi, a 19th-century artist. The correct spelling is Madonnina and although most think the image on the medal is the Blessed Virgin Mary, it is actually an 11-year-old girl, Angelina Cian. Some reference the painting as Madonna Della Strada, loosely translated to “Our Lady of the Wayside” or “Our Lady of the Good Road.”  Some say Madonna of the Street is a perfect medal to wear while traveling on the street.
