Our Lady of Fatima
Patron of Fatima, Portugal, Cajuns & Lafayette, Louisiana
Invoked for Health & Wealth
Feast Day: February 20
Our Lady of Fatima’s story took place long ago in Fatima, Portugal. 3 children named Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco were part of a family of shepherds. The Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to the children on the 13th day of the month for 6 consecutive months in 1917, from May 13th through October 13th. Also known as Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of Fatima revealed 3 secrets or prophecies to the children. The first two secrets involved the revelation of facts about Heaven and Hell, as well as descriptions of the conclusion of World War I and predictions about World War II. The last secret was written down but not disclosed for many years. The third revelation was not prophetic in a way where it would be regarded as “front page news” but it was still the most revealing of all the secrets as it reinforced and confirmed the fact that the way to assure the salvation of our souls in the Ever after was through a life on earth that is filled with prayer and penance. A miracle is said to have occurred in Fatima. 70,000 people gathered and the sun shined brightly through a storm and changed sizes and “danced” for its audience. The citizens were all able to watch intently as the sun did not hurt their eyes in any way. The devout and those unconvinced all became stronger believers on that miraculous day.
