Saint Vincent DePaul
Feast Day: September 27
He was selected to become a priest and ordained in 1600. 5 years later, while on a voyage at sea, he was captured by pirates and forced into a life of slavery. He escaped years later and charity became his passion. Vincent began preaching missions. In 1625, he led a congregation which became known as the mission for which the Lazarists are named. The Sisters of Charity were also modeled after Vincent de Paul. His name is often associated with the most philanthropic organizations and billions of charity dollars have been collected under his name in efforts to help the young, the old, and all those in between who are truly needy.
