Madonna of the Street

Madonna of the Street

Patron of Love & Compassion

This beautiful piece of art was first presented at an art exhibition in Venice, Italy. The artist was Roberto Ferruzzi and many say the Madonnina is his most famous piece of art. Many thought that the painting was an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus, including those of us at SaintsforSinners! However, on April 9, 2019 a lady named Madonna Jones ordered our Madonna of the Streets medal and we learned the truth about the famous panting when we began researching and writing the story for her.

Our research indicates that the painting is actually of a lady—a girl, actually— named Angelina Cian. She was only 11 years old and is holding her young brother in the portrait.

The whereabouts of the painting today is not known for sure. Some think that an art collector from Pennsylvania bought the art in the 1950’s but even that is a matter of speculation.

Some reference the painting as Madonna Della Strada or Santa Maria Della Strada. The loose translation from Italian roughly translates to Our Lady of the Wayside or Our Lady of the Good Road. Many say that Madonna of the Streets is a perfect medallion to offer safety while traveling. © 2019 For Madonna Jones
