Saint Catherine of Sweden
Patron saint for help with difficult pregnancies
Invoked against miscarriages
Feast Day: March 24
Catherine’s story took place long ago, born in Sweden, she was a middle child of 6 siblings. Her father died while she was very young. Her mother was known as Bridgettina. In a pre-arranged marriage, Catherine wed Lord Eggert Kyren, but they took a vow of chastity. Catherine decided to travel to Rome with her mother, where they conducted pilgrimages to holy lands. During their time in Rome, Catherine and Bridget spent time tending to and teaching the poor, and introducing them to religion. After her mother’s death, Catherine returned to Sweden and helped flourish the Order of the Holy Savior, which was created by her mother. Catherine also became friends with Catherine of Siena, now known as one of the few female Doctors of the Church. Catherine’s emblems are typically lilies and a red deer. It is said the deer protected her and thwarted her attempted rape by scoundrels. She was Canonized in the 15th Century by Pope Innocent VIII. © 2014
