Saint Gabriel
The Arch Angel
Patron of messengers and postal workers
Invoked for happy news Feast Day: September 29
Gabriel’s story took place long ago. Along with Michael and Raphael, Gabriel is known as the Arch Angel. Gabriel had the privilege of providing big news to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The famous prayer, the “Hail Mary” began with a message Gabriel brought from Heaven. Gabriel came down to see Mary and told her “Hail Mary, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and Blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.” This must have been difficult for Mary to comprehend! She quickly accepted she had become the beneficiary of the Immaculate Conception and would bear the child known as Jesus. Equally difficult must have Mary’s duty of explaining all of this to her husband Joseph. The Angel Gabriel was a great messenger. He explained things clearly for Mary to understand and believe the miracles that were to occur. Gabriel is known as a skilled interpreter and his gift of spreading happy news makes him a very popular Angel. He is quite logically known as the patron of stamp collectors and postal workers, both of whom are active in sending and spreading good news on a daily basis. Pray with the Arch Angel Gabriel when you are trying to figure something out. Gabriel will try his best to bring messages to you! © 2001
