Saint Mark

Saint Mark

Patron Saint of Reconciliations;
Invoked when 'Building Bridges' or 'Mending Fences'
Feast Day: April 25

Mark’s story took place long ago. Mark is a prominent religious figure who is most often associated with John, whose mother invited the Apostles to use her home as a meeting place. Mark is said to have traveled with Jesus during a time when Jesus wound up imprisoned. Mark was able to escape by slipping out of the clothes he was captured in. Mark then went on pilgrimages with Paul and Peter. At some point Paul and Mark had a heated disagreement and they were estranged for many years. However, their quarrel was resolved and Mark’s Gospel informs us that Mark later worked with and helped Paul on many occasions, including when Paul was imprisoned. Peter and Mark remained close also and Peter often referred to mark as “his son.” Mark was known as a gifted evangelist and writer; his symbol is the winged lion, which is often included in many artistic renderings (as well as on this SfS medal). Pray to Mark when you and your friends or family are having differences of opinion. Mark will help you see there are many different views and none of these views are necessarily “wrong.” Mark’s ability to get past differences with Jesus and the Apostles makes him a most admirable Saint. @2009
