4th Day of Lent - Saint Brigid of Ireland 🐔 Patron Saint of Ireland, Chickens, Chicken Farmers, Poultry, and Dairy Goods

On this 4th Calendar Day of Lent, March 5th, 2022, we celebrate Saint Brigid, a patron saint of Ireland from the 6th Century. Saint Brigid once heard Saint Patrick preach and it was a day she never forgot.

Saint Brigid, also known as “Bridget,” stayed with her mother in her early years. She was a kind and generous girl who could not bear to see a living creature hungry or cold. When her father, Dubhthach, became angry that Brigid was sharing their wealth by feeding and clothing the poor, Brigid reminded him that “Christ dwelt in all things,” wealthy or not.

Saint Brigid’s mother was a dairy maid and Brigid often assisted her with the work. It’s not surprising Saint Brigid is a patron for chickens, chicken farmers, poultry, and dairy goods.

We don't exactly have an explanation but www.Catholicsaints.info states that Saint Brigid’s head is in a Jesuit Church in Lisbon, Portugal. If we had known this earlier, we would have paid a visit before traveling to Fatima and witnessing the fiery flames!
