Mary’s life was forever changed when Jesus cast seven devils out from her; from that point on, she became His ardent and loyal follower. Even when Jesus was ostracized and left to die on the cross, Mary stood by Him. After Jesus died, Mary was the first to see He had been resurrected. In art, Mary is often portrayed waiting at the foot of Jesus’ cross. We should all honor Mary Magdalene, patroness of hair stylists, perfumers, and repentant sinners.

A Doctor of the Church, Saint Teresa of Avila is one of only 4 women to be decreed the honor. More concrete evidence of the handicap women have had in the Catholic Church! Fortunately, Pope Francis is also following a forward thinking path about expanding women's roles in the church, listening, and is also, working diligently to “Build a Bigger Tent,” and become radically inclusive, and not exclusive.

Today we celebrate two of the greatest versions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Our Lady of Prompt Succor. Pray to them when in need of quick help or constant help. Palm Sunday is only a few days away! Our Lenten Series will be ending soon and for those of you who read every day, surely that’s another way to celebrate the Resurrection.

Like Saint Peregrine, Saint Agatha fights against the many forms of cancer. Many wear and share her medal and she provides a source of comfort, even without the medal.

Today, we are celebrating saint Dorothy of Caesarea, patron of gardeners, flowers, newlyweds, and midwives. Officially known as the patron of midwives. I guess patron of doulas is a fair description, as well. Plus, Saint Dorothy is the perfect saint for springtime since she is the patron of florists and gardeners and her story fits right into the theme of blooms and blooming.

Saint Expedite, Patron of Emergencies caused by our procrastinations, is our Saint for today! Turn to Expedite when you are in dire need of speedy solutions. Little is known about Expedite although his story is celebrated throughout the world. We saw him under glass in Europe but his backstory (at least one of them) lies right here in New Orleans.

Because of her storied travels, Bridget has been designated the patroness of boatmen, travelers, mariners and sailors. And chicken farmers. We do not know why! Many consider Patrick to be the true leader of Irish-Catholics. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City is probably the most famous Cathedral in America. Patrick’s Feast Day, March 17th, is oft-referred to as the day when everyone can share in the “Luck o’ the Irish.” Many wear Irish green and enjoy Irish frivolity on that day, now simply known as Saint Patrick’s Day.

Saint Kevin of Glendalough, was an Irish priest, who lived in what is now known as “Saint Kevin’s Bed.” (pictured below He loved spending time with animals and he is known for having a blackbird egg laid and hatched in his hand. We think Dr. Dolittle is modeled after Saint Kevin and his medal is the perfect gift for any animal lover. We often call saint Kevin the “Animal Whisperer” because he could talk to the animals.
