Many consider Patrick to be the true leader of Irish-Catholics. Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City is probably the most famous Cathedral in America. Patrick’s Feast Day, March 17th, is oft-referred to as the day when everyone can share in the “Luck o’ the Irish.” Many wear Irish green and enjoy Irish frivolity on that day, now simply known as Saint Patrick’s Day.

The best message we can find about the Celtic Cross comes from the Bible. Its circularity shows no beginning and no end, signifying that God does not change. God is the same always, as in the past, present and the future.

Saint Gertrude’s shrine is in Cologne, Germany. People bring gold and silver mice figurines to leave at her resting place. Again, the curious rationale is that Saint Gertrude helps people get to Heaven, especially those who may have a long journey to get there. According to the Rules of Catholicism, those who have done some sinning and then die have to wait to get to Heaven and they wind up in a place called Purgatory. Saint Gertrude is the saint you check in with who shortens your visit there. Then Archangel Michael comes to get you and brings you to Saint Peter at the Gates to Heaven.

There’s still time to have one of our hand-painted Saint Patrick medals arrive in time for Saint Patrick’s Day on March 17th. “Saint Paddy’s Day” always reminds us of the huge parades and celebrations in New Orleans every year. Except this year will be lot different because of COVID restrictions and limitations. Lots of green beer will still be indulged. The celebrations will be missed by many. But I guess there’s one “Silver Lining:” less green beer will wind up on the bars, floors, streets and sidewalks of New Orleans!
