Cosmas and Damian were brothers, twins and Doctors. They were well known as healers and were one of the earliest organ transplant surgeons…. who performed their surgeries for free!
Cosmas & Damian were nicknamed the “Moneyless or Silverless,” probably because of their generous spirits.
Justinian was a man who developed a badly ulcerated leg and Cosmas & Damian sought to help. They decided to try and graft the leg of a man who had recently died. Justinian's injured leg was effectively replaced with the graft and their surgery was successful. He was healed!
Their status as well-known physicians continued well after their deaths, and it is said that their healing abilities have continued. Many seek their help and comfort to this day, asking for help with organ transplant surgeries and many doctors revere their fine example.
