2nd Day of Lent - Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati 🏔️ Patron of Hikers and Mountain Climbers
On the 2nd Calendar Day of Lent, March 3rd, 2022, we offerBlessedPier Giorgio Frassati. Blessed Pier has not attained sainthood. We’re hopeful we will all be celebrating his canonization, along with Blessed Carlo Acutis, (whom we wrote about yesterday) in the not-too-distant future.
Blessed Pier is a man who is known for talking the talk, walking the walk, and hiking the hike. It’s often proposed that Blessed Pier ought to be the first patron saint of hikers and mountain climbers. That’s probably why his medal often features him standing with a mountain, as he is on one version of the SaintsforHOPEhand-painted saint medal.
Pier Giorgio Frassati is best known for making “THE PACT,” a perfect message for Lent. Pier proposed that everyone should make a Pledge. His premise is to perform an Act of Charity every day and also recite the “Courage to Be Great.”
As a mountain climbing enthusiast, Blessed Pier said “the higher we go, the better we shall hear a voice of God.”
This is the Courage to Be Great prayer:
“Heavenly Father, Give me the Courage to strive for the higher goals, to flee every temptation to be mediocre. Enable me to aspire to greatness, as Pier Giorgio did, and to open my heart with joy to a call for holiness. Free me from the fear of failure. I want to be, Lord, firmly and forever untied to you. Grant me the graces I ask you through pier Giorgio’s intercession, by the merits of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pier’s “saint” medalshows him standing with the snow capped mountain. Look carefully at our Blessed Pier hand-painted medal of Pier and you will see we embellished his stance. Pier typically has a pipe that he is holding or smoking. We covered up the pipe in an effort to embellish and enhance the stature of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati. And so, you’ll see our medals are definitely one-of-a-kind.
Our hand-painted Blessed Pier Giorgio medal package includes additional information and a wristband to wear to serve as a reminder to strive for the Courage to Be Great.
