39th Day of Lent - Saint Peter the Apostle 🗝️ Heaven's Gatekeeper - Patron of Locksmiths
Today we celebrate Saint Peter, Heaven’s Gatekeeper, Patron of Locksmiths. Pray to him and he will “get you there”. Like Thomas, Peter was also one of the 12 Apostles. He was the brother of Andrew the Apostle and was originally called Simon, though Jesus changed his name to Peter, meaning “rock.” Jesus believed Saint Peter was the rock and foundation upon which the church would be built.
A miracle worker, Saint Peter was also the first Pope. To this day, the area encompassing the Vatican in Rome is still called “Saint Peter’s Square.” Above the square are 140 statues of saints, surrounding the Vatican. Together, the 140 are known as the Colonnade of Saints protecting Vatican Square.
On Good Friday, the best message from Saint Peter is to reflect, atone, and always keep believing that:
“The saints are the sinners
who keep on trying.”
