Ā Ā Ā Today we celebrate Saint Peter, Heavenās Gatekeeper, Patron of Locksmiths. Pray to him and he will āget you thereā. LikeĀ Thomas, PeterĀ was also one of the 12 Apostles. He was the brother ofĀ Andrew the ApostleĀ and was originally called Simon, though Jesus changed his name to Peter, meaning ārock.ā Jesus believed Saint Peter was the rock and foundation upon which the church would be built.Ā
Ā Ā Ā A miracle worker, Saint Peter was also the first Pope. To this day, the area encompassing the Vatican in Rome is still called āSaint Peterās Square.ā Above the square are 140 statues of saints, surrounding the Vatican. Together, the 140 are known as the Colonnade of Saints protecting Vatican Square.Ā
Ā Ā Ā On Good Friday, the best message from Saint Peter is to reflect, atone, and always keep believing that:
āThe saints are the sinners
who keep on trying.ā
