Yesterday, September 29th, is known as the Feast Day and the Celebration of Angels, specifically the Arch Angels, Gabriel, Michael and Raphael. The Guardian Angel seemingly fits into the calendar radar too because his Feast Day is this Saturday, October 2nd, or this Wednesday! Don’t worry about missing the feast day of the Guardian Angels. They don’t take days off!

October 4th is the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, well known and revered as the patron saint of animal lovers and ecologists. He was canonized as a saint by in 1228 by Pope Gregory IX.

Last night, former El Paso, Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke, who is a candidate running for president, said he would work to outlaw semi-automatic weapons and artillery.

The New Orleans Saints Season begins tonight with the Saints playing the Houston Texans in the Superdome! Loyal “WHODATS” will be there en masse, cheering for the Saints, led by quarterback Drew Brees. We are reminded of Steve Gleason, the former Safety of the New Orleans Saints, whose statue is located outside Championship Field. He’s famous for blocking that punt in the playoff game years ago, but infamous for his work off the field raising money and awareness for persons living with ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosiswhich, years ago, was not as well-known and called “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.”

As I’ve been working here, I’ve gotten to know a lot more about the saints and started to choose favorites. Right now, my two favorite medals are Saint Philomena and Saint Therese of Lisieux. Both of these medals instantly stood out to me when laid among the others, but once I started to understand them more fully, it sunk in as to why.

And then get back to watching Ari Melber on MSNBC or Anderson Cooper on CNN, two habits I should probably give up for Lent (or so I am told).

Ferragosto - The American Italian Cultural Center celebrates and provides a light Italian summer dinner paired with three classic Italian cocktails in celebration of Ferragosto! It’s a public holiday usually celebrated annually on August 15th, so coinciding with the Assumption of Mary.
